HARBOR HOUSE LAUNCHES “HELPING HANDS” VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Southwest Harbor, January 17– With just 13 full-time year round employees, Harbor House relies on the talents, time and efforts of its many volunteers. Without these extraordinary people Harbor House would not be able to provide so many programs, services and events for all in our island communities. To honor and acknowledge these special friends, Harbor House is launching the “Helping Hands” volunteer program. Dawn Carroll will serve as the Volunteer coordinator and each month will choose, along with the staff, one extraordinary volunteer to be honored in the Harbor House Happenings Column and on the website each month. “Our first honoree is Paula Dunbar,” announces Dawn Carroll. “Paula currently teaches cardio sculpt at Harbor House 3 days a week, but has been volunteering her time at Harbor House in many different capacities for over 30 years. She truly embodies the spirit of Harbor House and what it means to be a “helping hand.” When told about the honor Paula commented, "I love Harbor House and will always be one of its biggest advocates. I think it is a vital part of the community. I have watched our town turn from the occasional walker on the street to a community of runners, walkers, bikers, skate boarders, basically anything that keeps you moving and healthy. I'm so happy and privileged to be part of it all!" Dawn hopes to encourage more community members to become Harbor House “Helping Hands.” Please call Dawn at 244-3713 if you are interested in volunteering in any capacity. Harbor House is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of all people on Mount Desert Island through recreational, educational and social programs.
