Elena Scotti

Elena's career embraces work in both the public and private sectors. Her experience in both sectors encompasses all aspects of fundraising, marketing, branding, advertising, direct marketing and promotion, as well as the tactical experience necessary to manage and build operating systems and infrastructures to support maojor campaigns and initiatives. On the non-profit side - Elena is a development professional with 15+ years of experience consulting with and working for national organizations such as The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Inc. , The 92nd Street YM-YWHA, Central Park Conservancy, Cooper Union and Partnership for a Drug-Free America. She has tackled national and local initiatives including advocacy, education, elder care, health care, immigration, and public policy. On the for-profit side - she launched and ran a successful advertising agency for 12 years that specialized in youth and women's marketing. Elena hiolds a Master's degree from MYU as a University Scholar. In addition, she has been an Adjunct Professor teaching Non-Profit Publicity and Marketing at Pace University School of Business, and Adverstising Concepts at Parsons School of Design. Elena believes Harbor House is a key asset of Mount Desert Island, as important to conserving life here as the mountains she loves to hike.

Nichole Greaves
Assistant Director of Development

Nichole brings to Harbor House over 6 years of Development experience, including helping to start and run the non-profit Rapid Response Trauma Network of Washington County. Nichole received a B.A degree from the University of Maine. A recent resident of Mount Desert Island, Nichole has quickly fallen in love with the community atmosphere here on the Island. Her personal experience with the great programming at Harbor House convinced her that she wanted to be part of the dedicated Harbor House Team.

Mary Ellen Martel
Children's Center Director

Mary Ellen began working at the Children's Center as a teacher's aide in 1992, after many years working with children as an assistant Little League coach, dean of a resident summer camp, and a Girl Scout leader, trainer and camp director. She was named Children's Center Director in 2002. Mary Ellen is passionate in her belief that quality care and education in the earlier years are crucial to success in later life. She has shared her experience, skills and knowledge with others, teaching workshops in the design of childcare environments and creating natural outdoor play spaces. She also teaches classes for childcare providers in beginning American Sign Language for preschoolers. Her days at the Center provide plenty of opportunity to enjoy her other passion - photography. Mary Ellen lives in Southwest Harbor with her husband and daughter and a menagerie of pets.

Diana Novella
Health & Fitness Manager/ Events Manager

Diana and her family have lived in Southwest Harbor for ten years now. Prior to moving to Maine, Diana worked as a Training Manager for Banana Republic and Abercrombie and Fitch. She is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and has a degree in Business Management. Diana and her husband owned and operated a business in Southwest Harbor. Her love of community and Harbor House attracted her to this position. Diana is also a certified "Johnny G" cycling instructor and brings her enthusiasm for that into everything she does.

Scott Phelps
Sports & Youth Underground Director

Scott Phelps is an experienced athletic administrator and coach, with over ten years of experience working with children of all ages in multiple sports and classroom settings. Scott is responsible for all the youth and recreational sports programs of Harbor House, including the production of many special events and tournaments. In addition, he has helped to revitalize Harbor House's Youth Center Underground. Scott's philosophy towards teaching and coaching is to challenge students and players by setting lofty goals and then putting dreams into motion by following through with hard work. Scott also serves as the Buildings and Grounds manager at Harbor House on a volunteer basis. Scott received his associate degree in Recreation Management from the University of Maine at Machias. In high school Scott was a three sport athlete and also played varsity basketball at UMM for two years. Scott and his wife Margie and their four children reside in Southwest Harbor.

Joan Tukey
Business Manager

Joan, our Business Manager, keeps an eye on many things for Harbor House. Joan's background includes an MBA in Finance and Accounting and a long career at Bank of America where she managed a department of 26 coporate lenders and a portfolio of $1 Billion. Joan appreciates the importance of volunteerism. She spent 7 years with United Way as the Committee Chairperson for Early Childhood Development. She was responsible for evaluating the programs of 30 children's centers in order to allocate donated funds. Some of Joan's other volunteer activities have been teaching blind children to swim and countless hours at animal shelters. Currently, Joan is on the Board of Safe Family Exchange and she is an active member of her church. Joan was attracted to Harbor House because she believes in its mission and because she thinks the staff is terrific.

Margy Vose
Community Relations Manager

Margy is a native of MDI who joined the Harbor House team in June 2007. She attended the University of Maine at Orono where she played on the varsity tennis team and was Maine State Doubles Champion during her junior year. She graduated with a B.S. degree in Education and completed her student teaching at MDI High School. Margy loves children and was co-teacher in the toddler room at Kids' Corner Childcare Center after graduating from college. This past summer Harbor House launched a combined golf/tennis camp and Margy enjoyed teaching tennis fundamentals to all of the campers. Margy lives in Southwest Harbor with her two children.

Ann Anda
Advertising and Marketing Consultant

Ann is an advertising agency veteran with 25 award-winning years of experiences as a Creative Director and copywriter for clients including General Electric, Scott Paper, Pillsbury, Diet Pepsi and Campbell Soup. Ann was Creative Director at both BBDO Worldwide and the legendary DKG Advertising. Among her many achievements, Ann's outstanding talents were recognized early on with her rise to the prestigious position as the first woman Vice President of BBDO Worldwide. Ann co-founded Anda & Scotti, the first ad agency in New York owned and operated solely by women. She is the winner of numerous awards including five Clios, two Effies and the One Club Gold. She resides in Bar Harbor and is actively involved with the Hancock County chapter of SCORE, which provides free counseling and low-cost workshops to businesses in Downeast Maine communities. Ann is a big kid at heart, who prefers the company of little children, especially tiny tots, so Harbor House is a perfect fit.
