STAFF

Our Staff is well trained and truly enjoys working with this age. Each member of the School Age Program Staff is required to take classes and attend workshops in the school age field. Many of our staff members choose to take more training than is required by the state in order to keep abreast of the latest information and trends in school age care. We have one of the lowest adult/child ratios in the area. (The State of Maine requires one adult for every 13 children, we provide one adult for every eight.) All of our school age programs, including Explorer Camp, are licensed by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

BEFORE AND AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Harbor House provides both Before School and After School Enrichment Programs for grades K-4 during the school year. These programs are based in our beautiful new facility at 38 Herrick Road. Before Care is available beginning at 6:30am until the school day begins. A teacher waits for the Pemetic school bus with the children at the end of our drive, and another staff member drives students to the Tremont Consolidated School.  After School Care is provided from the end of the school day until 5:30pm.  In the afternoon children are met getting off the bus and are transported back from the Tremont school.  Extended Care is provided during school vacation, holidays, teacher workshop days, early dismissal days and snow days.

The After School Program provides an opportunity for children to wind down after the school day. Staff members provide a healthy balance of active outdoor play, and quieter indoor activities. Healthy snacks are provided and the weekly schedule includes a variety of activities. One day the children might play chess. Another day might find them creating projects from recyclable materials. Yet another day may find them taking a walk and enjoying the beauty of the area. No matter what the day's schedule, Harbor House School Age Programs are fun!

Let us work with you to create the care schedule that best fits your needs and will help you to feel assured that your child is safe and well-cared for while you are at work.

EXPLORER CAMP

In the summer, our school age staff shifts gears and provides an exciting summer camp for the K-4 crowd. The addition of a school bus allows us to plan field trips to all points of our beautiful island home. Explorer Camp is based at the Herrick Road facility. Mondays and Fridays are home based days. Campers will enjoy craft activities, field games and sports, visits to the library and walks to the nearby shore. Tuesday is our weekly visit to Echo Lake Beach.  Wednesday is the day for hikes, museums and visits to the zoo, while Thursday will find the group traveling to one of the many waterfront areas on the Island for swimming, wading or tidal pool exploration.  Our low adult / child ratio means our counselors really get to know your child and will tailor the day to best fit everyone's needs.

As with our school year programs, we will work to create a camp schedule that best meets the needs of your family, whether you are looking for a week or two of camp or you need care for the entire summer. Explorer Camp fills up quickly, so be sure to register early to avoid disappointment.
